MANILA, Philippines – Veteran banker and respected industry leader Gil A. Buenaventura has passed away, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) confirmed on Monday, April 21.
RCBC made the announcement through a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, mourning the loss of Buenaventura, who served as a director of the bank.
“It is with deep sorrow that [RCBC] announces the passing of Mr. Gil A. Buenaventura, our Director, today, April 21, 2025. Mr. Buenaventura was a valuable part of the organization, being a Director of the Bank since 2016,” the bank stated.
Buenaventura was RCBC’s President and Chief Executive Officer from 2016 to 2019. After his retirement, he continued to serve on the bank’s Board of Directors, contributing his extensive experience and strategic insight.
Before his tenure at RCBC, Buenaventura also held key leadership roles in the banking industry. He served as President and CEO of the state-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).
Earlier in his career, he headed the Corporate Banking Group at the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), where he also served as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He was previously President of Prudential Bank, which was absorbed by BPI in 2005.
A graduate of the University of San Francisco, Buenaventura earned his degree in Economics in 1973. He later obtained his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin in 1975.
