MANILA, Philippines – Several schools and universities have announced the suspension of face-to-face classes for Wednesday, March 26, 2025, due to the extended Manibela transport strike.
MANIBELA earlier announced that it would hold a transport strike from March 24 to 26, 2025. This prompted some schools to suspend face-to-face classes and resort to distance learning during the period.
The public transport organization, which opposes the implementation of the phaseout of traditional jeepneys under the Philippine government's Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program, protests the government's allegedly inaccurate consolidation figures.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) stated that the nationwide consolidation rate for public utility vehicles had reached 86 percent following the application deadline.
However, during a press conference, MANIBELA Chairman Mar Valbuena criticized the LTFRB for misleading the public and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. into believing that the consolidation program was successful and that suspending the modernization initiative was unnecessary.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro reiterated the appeal of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to Manibela to engage in dialogue to address their concerns.
This list will be updated as announcements are made by schools, local or national authorities.
