MANILA, Philippines – Some schools and universities announced the suspension of face-to-face classes for Monday, March 24, 2025, due to Manibela transport strike scheduled from March 24 to 26.
The public transport organization, which opposes the implementation of the phaseout of traditional jeepneys under the Philippine government's Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program, now protests the government's allegedly inaccurate consolidation figures.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) stated that the nationwide consolidation rate for public utility vehicles had reached 86 percent following the application deadline.
However, during a press conference, MANIBELA Chairman Mar Valbuena criticized the LTFRB for misleading the public and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. into believing that the consolidation program was successful and that suspending the modernization initiative was unnecessary.
With this transport strike, most of the affected schools advised to shift to online classes or distance learning modalities.
This list will be updated as announcements are made by schools, local or national authorities.
