We share many good times with our friends—and sometimes, we even spend more time with them than with our own families. Sadly, not all friendships last forever, and the best friends you have now might leave you behind when you get sick.
That’s the experience that one netizen shared as she reflected on the life of her dad, who’s currently sick with CKD (chronic kidney disease).
The netizen, name withheld for privacy reasons, posted on Facebook that her dad was diagnosed with the condition some years ago. What’s sad, she explained, was that her dad seemed to have so many friends back when he was still alright, but none of them visited when he got sick.
For many years, this daughter observed how her father spent time with his friends every weekend. She felt that there was never a weekend when they weren’t spending time together, enjoying drinks until the crack of dawn.
“I remember them well, and he had a huge circle of friends back then. They would get together every weekend, and I don’t remember a week without them hanging out. Inom dito, inom dyan inom magdamagan,” she recalls.
Now, you might expect that with that closeness, they would stick with their friend no matter how tough the situation gets. But according to the man’s daughter, they disappeared when he got sick and experienced a traumatic accident.
“Why wasn’t a single friend by his side when he needed them the most? In my vivid memory, I don’t recall anyone asking him, ‘Kamusta ka?’,” she wondered.
She also shared that she can’t even recall a time when they had bonding moments as a family, yet her dad spent a lot of good times with his friends every weekend.
Having learned a painful lesson from the experience, she shared a reminder to everyone who finds her story online:
- Spend time with your family, and spend your money with them because in times of hardship, they will be the ones who will stick with you to the end.
- Invest in your health, not splurge on good times with friends who might actually leave you when the going gets tough…
