MANILA, Philippines – A concerned netizen posted photos of unclean utensils at a popular fast food chain in the Philippines, drawing mixed reactions on social media. Do you think it’s right that she posted the image for awareness?
According to the post of netizen Claudette Hilario, she was dining at a Jollibee branch in Floridablanca in Pampanga when she noticed the dirty utensils from the rack. She shared her experience on Facebook for awareness, also posting a photo of the utensils in question.

Hilario explained that some spoons she picked from the utensils rack still had rice stuck to them. The photo clearly showed the rice on the spoons, making many netizens react with disgust that these utensils weren’t properly cleaned and sanitized.
It was clear from Hilario’s post, though, that the post wasn’t intended to put malice on the situation. Instead, she simply called out the fast food chain to ensure that “little details” such as making sure that the utensils are clean, should be a priority. After all, the fast food chain is a favorite dining spot for families, especially those with young children.
She also pointed out the health risks of using contaminated and dirty utensils in dining.
While Hilario commended fast food chain workers for their hard work, she also reminded them that hygiene and customer safety are non-negotiable. These should always come hand in hand with good service. After all, people could get sick with dirty, contaminated utensils.

The netizen also reminded others to be careful and always check their utensils when dining out, particularly in fast food chains. However, she didn’t simply target one fast food chain for this warning.
Not surprisingly, many other netizens expressed disgust, even anger, as they commented on Hilario’s post. Many even commented that they encountered the same thing in other fast food outlets, with some also experiencing the same thing even in restaurants.
Others commented that they usually ask for disposable utensils to ensure that they’re truly using clean spoons and forks.
However, not everyone agrees with what Hilario has done. Some pointed out that she shouldn’t expect stellar service in a fast food chain. Others commented that she should have just taken the matter in private, without dragging Jollibee’s name into public.
In her defense, Hilario argued that it’s still a good idea to raise the issue in public to raise awareness and to ensure that fast food chains will improve their services, especially when it comes to ensuring customer health and safety.

She also added that she was able to finish her food despite the earlier issue with the dirty utensils, proving that the post wasn’t an attack against the fast food chain itself.
