Apple said the iPhone 16e has features found in more expensive models, including Apple-tailored artificial intelligence features and integration with OpenAI's ChatGPT.

“iPhone 16e packs in the features our users love about the iPhone 16 lineup, including breakthrough battery life, fast performance powered by the latest-generation A18 chip, an innovative 2-in-1 camera system, and Apple Intelligence,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing.

The iPhone 16e will be available in only white and black in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage capacities, starting at $599 in the United States, and will be available starting February 28, according to Apple.

To compare, the standard iPhone starts at $799 and available in variety of colors such as ultramarine, teal, pink, white and black.

In the Philippines, iPhone 16e will retail at ₱39,990 (128GB), ₱46,990 (256GB) and ₱ 58,990 (512GB). Apple then advised customers to "check back later for availability."

When it comes to display, the iPhone 16e and iPhone 16 are nearly identical with both having a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel.

For the cameras, both the iPhone 16e and iPhone 16 pack a 48MP main sensor with Apple’s latest imaging tech, but the 16 goes further with an extra Ultra Wide lens and some advanced photography features.

The lower-price iPhone was launched as Apple works to fuel sales in the face of intense competition, particularly in China.

In 2022, Apple also released iPhone SE series, which similarly targeted lower paying customers.
