MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) warned the public on Friday, January 3, 2025 against the spread of misinformation on the alleged new "international health concern."
"Reliable sources currently do not support circulating posts on social media about the alleged international health concern," DOH said in a statement.
"There is no confirmation from either the cited country or the World Health Organization (WHO)," the health agency added.
The DOH issued the statement amidst the circulating claims about a new epidemic allegedly overwhelming hospitals and crematories in China involving influenza A, HMPV, mycoplasma pneumoniae, and COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines also dismissed the reports calling them "fake news."
The DOH said that the Philippines is an active member of the WHO network that follows the International Health Regulations (IHR). This system gives updates on international health concerns.
The health department added that the country's disease surveillance systems are in place and working.
"Please do not share questionable websites or online sources. Let's not spread misinformation and confusion," DOH appealed.
