MANILA, Philippines – The Low Pressure Area (LPA) over the east of Mindanao has developed into Tropical Depression 'Querubin', state weather bureau PAGASA announced at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

As of 4:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Depression 'Querubin' was estimated based on all available data at 215 km East Southeast of Davao City or 245 km East of General Santos City.
'Querubin' is moving south southeastward slowly with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55, and central pressure of 1004 hPa.
Querubin is the 17th tropical cyclone to form inside or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this year.
TROPICAL CYCLONE WIND SIGNAL
Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted in Davao Oriental. It would bring rains with gusty winds in the area within the next 24 hours.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
'Querubin' is forecast to move east northeastward while slowly moving away from Davao Region over the next 12 hours before turning northward by tomorrow (December 18).

This weather disturbance will then traverse Mindanao and Palawan area from tomorrow afternoon until Sunday (December 22) afternoon as a remnant low.
PAGASA emphasized that the track may still shift within the limit of the forecast confidence cone.
The agency added that the Shear Line and Querubin may potentially bring heavy to intense rainfall over several areas in Visayas and Mindanao outside the radius of Querubin.
