Eight UAAP-member schools battle to win the hearts of judges and viewers. The top three (3) cheerdance teams will be named as podium finishers at the end of the competition.

Meanwhile, perennial powerhouse NU is going extra terrestrial with an Outer Space-themed routine. NU has become a household name in the cheerdance landscape since winning the university's first crown in 2013. The NU Pep Squad has won seven of the last nine titles.

Opening the curtain for today's event at 2:00 pm will be the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles with their “storytelling” theme.

There will be minimal changes in judging criteria this year, according to CDC technical head Paula Nunag. All judges are certified by the International Cheer Union (ICU), the global governing body of cheer, which is accredited by the International Olympic Committee.
The criteria for judging were divided into two: cheerleading and dance criteria.
Squads will showcase 5 to 6 minutes of performance each with the timer starting the moment each team steps on the blue mats.

The result of the CDC will be part of the tabulation to determine the UAAP Overall Champion for Season 87.
