MANILA, Philippines – Before the end of 2024, a fire in Tondo, Manila claimed the lives of five children.
The fire broke out on Monday night, December 30, at the victims' home at Malvar St. cor. Varona St., Tondo, Manila.
According to Fire Inspector Alejandro Ramos, Chief Intelligence and Investigation Unit of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Manila, relatives live in the three-story house.
The fire reportedly started on the second floor of the house and was responded to by 13 fire trucks after the fire reached the second alarm.

The deceased children were cousins aged 8 to 14.
According to the victims' grandfather, the children were just visiting the said area to welcome the New Year.
"Pinagtatadyakan ko yung pinto. Nung nagiba sumalubong sakin apoy na. Naglalaro sila magkakasama. Hindi na ko makapanik kasi may apoy na. Nasusunog sila."
Meanwhile, the BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire.
