MANILA, Philippines – The United States of America (USA) is welcoming its new president after Republican former President Donald John Trump won the 2024 United States presidential election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 (November 6 on Manila time).
Trump won against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and makes history as the second former president to win a nonconsecutive term since Democrat Grover Cleveland in 1884 and 1892.

Trump captured at least 270 of the electoral votes needed to win the presidency. His tally could increase as more votes are counted.
Harris hoped to become the first woman to serve as president; but Trump received the majority of Electoral College electors from voters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
One of Trump’s winning swing votes was when he bagged Georgia’s 16 electoral votes. He also won in Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Analysts noted that Trump’s victory came largely after he earned the favor of Hispanic voters, and people who suffered “economically” during the term of former President Joe Biden.
Prior to his victory, Trump took the stage in Florida on election night to address his supporters, saying that he’s looking forward to healing the country.
He said, "This is the greatest political movement of all time. Now it is going to reach a new level of importance because we're going to help our country heal."
