MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared Monday, November 4, 2024, as a Day of National Mourning for the victims of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

The Palace through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin released Proclamation No. 728 setting up November 4 as national day of mourning “in solidarity with the bereaved families and loved ones of those who perished due to the devastation brought by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.”
"The entire nation is requested to offer prayers for the eternal repose of the souls of the victims," the Palace said in the Proclamation.
As provided by the law, on November 4, 2024, the national flag shall be flown at half-mast from sunset to sunrise, on all government buildings and installations throughout the Philippines and abroad.
The onslaught of 'Kristine' caused the loss of lives and tremendous destruction of property, including immense damage to agriculture and critical infrastructures and lifelines, as well as the disruption of the means of livelihood, and the normal way of life of the people, especially in the affected areas.
Based on the report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), as of October 30, 2024, Severe Tropical Storm Kristine affected a total of 1.79 million families or 7 million individuals and caused 139 casualties.
On Monday, classes and work will resume after 'Undas' holidays.
