2024 Bar Exam Results: P-Z Passers

MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court (SC) will release the 2024 bar exam results, including full list of passers on Friday, December 13, 2024 around 12 noon. View on this page for P-Z list of passers.

The exact date of bar results release was announced on November 27 by the Office of the Bar Chairperson (OBC).

To quote, "The results of the 2024 Bar Exam will be released on December 13, 2024 (Friday) at the courtyard of the Supreme Court Main Building in Ermita, Manila."

SC added that the results will be displayed on the LED walls inside the SC Courtyard and will be uploaded to the Supreme Court's official social media pages.

The fourth digitalized and regionalized bar exam was held on September 8, 11, and 15, 2024 in 13 test centers nationwide.

COVERAGE OF EXAM

The September 2024 Bar Examinations covered the following core bar subjects and their respective weights:

1. Political and Public International Law (15%)

2. Commercial and Taxation Laws (20%)

3. Civil Law (20%)

4. Labor Law and Social Legislation (10%)

5. Criminal Law (10%)

6. Remedial Law, Legal and Judicial Ethics with Practical Exercises (25%)

According to SC, these core subjects were determined and approved by the Court En Banc upon thoughtful review of previous syllabi and due consideration of the latest developments in legal practice.

PREVIOUS EXAMS

In the 2023 bar exams, passing rate was 36.77%. Ephraim Porciuncula Bie from University of Santo Tomas clinched the highest spot with 89.2625%.

In the 2022 bar exams, passing rate was 43.47% (3,992 out of 9,183). University of the Philippines College of Law alum Czar Mathew Gerard Torres aced the bar with 88.81%.

In the 2020-2021 bar exam, SC recorded a historic high of 72.28% passing rate (8,241 out of 11,402), the first bar exam during the COVID-19 pandemic. The high court did not release the list of topnotchers but instead recognized examinees who recorded “exemplary performance”.

In the 2019 bar exam, 27.36% hopefuls (2,103 out of 7,685) passed the series of exams. Mae Diane Azores of the University of Santo Tomas in Legaspi aced the bar with a rating of 91.0490%.

In the 2018 bar exams, only 22.07% (1,800 out of 8,158) passed the exams. Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) graduate Sean James Borja topped the bar with 89.31%.

ABOUT BAR EXAMS

The Philippine bar examinations, dubbed as the most prestigious professional licensure exam in the country for aspiring lawyers, is the only professional exam not handled by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). It is exclusively supervised by the Supreme Court.

The SC conducts the Bar examinations pursuant to Article VIII, Section 5 of the Constitution which provides that it shall have the power to promulgate rules governing the admission to the practice of law.

The tough examination has the usual passing rate of 20% to 30%.
