MANILA, Philippines – Netizens are abuzz on rumors that Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) is set to join the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
Despite the excitement of fans, the PUP Radicals are not part of the UAAP just yet, the university has confirmed in a statement. But this “dream” isn’t far from over, as they are looking forward to it by next year.
“Ito po ay pangarap na nais nating bigyang kulay sa mga darating na taon sa pamamagitan ng pag-apply sa kumite ng UAAP. At katulad ninyo, excited din po kaming matuloy ang planong ito,” the PUP’s statement reads.

On social media, netizens were too eager to share their enthusiasm over PUP Radical’s inclusion to the eight-member school league.
“Cheerdance competition is going to be so lit,” a netizen commented.
“Why not? Competitive naman sila sa SCUAA-NCR and National. Maganda sana dalawang Prime State U nandun. Para bagong rivalry UP and PUP ‘battle of iskolars,’” another one stated.
The PUP Radicals, formerly known as the Mighty Maroons, currently compete in the NAASCU (National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities) and SCUAA (State Colleges and Universities Athletics Association).
The UAAP has earned its spot as the top collegiate sports league in the Philippines since its inception in 1938. From its founding members of four, the Far Eastern University, National University, University of the Philippines, and University of Santo Tomas, it has expanded to 8 members to include Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of the East, and Adamson University.
