MANILA, Philippines – The holding of a wake has become part of Filipino tradition as a final glance and tribute to the deceased before they are laid to rest. Although cremation is becoming more common, most Filipinos still prefer the traditional wake.
But what would you do if, during the wake, a storm suddenly hit and caused flooding?
A viral Facebook post by a netizen from Naga, Camarines Sur, is currently the talk of the town, showing a coffin that had to be elevated due to Kristine onslaught and severe flooding.

According to Danice Audrey Abante's Facebook post, her grandmother, Elizabeth Abante, passed away at the age of 75 from heart disease on October 21.
Coincidentally, typhoon Kristine struck the Bicol Region, causing flooding in their area.
As a result, they had no choice but to elevate the coffin for her grandmother's wake.
"Mayung ibang choice, la sana naiintindahan mo. Hanggang sa huring paghali mo, nasasakitan kapa. (Wala nang ibang choice, sana naiintindihan mo. Hanggang sa huli mong pag-alis, nasasaktan ka pa)," it can be read.
"Dawa improvise lang higdaan kang lolo, aantabayan ka niya daa. Pakatatag ka lo. Yaun kami. (Kahit improvised lang ang higaan ni lolo, aantabayanan ka niya daw. Pakatatag ka, Lo. Nandito kami),” it added.
In an interview with The Summit Express, Danice said that the floodwaters had receded, allowing them to lower her grandmother's coffin.
She added that they still haven’t set a burial date because they haven't yet received her grandmother's death certificate, delayed by the typhoon.
In her following posts, it can be seen that they were able to lower their beloved grandmother’s coffin, allowing her a more dignified and proper burial. Aside from the costs of the wake and burial, they also face the challenge of crop losses on their farm due to the storm and flooding.
