MANILA, Philippines – Some local government units have decided to suspend classes for Wednesday, September 18, 2024, due to the inclement weather brought by Tropical Depression Gener and the southwest monsoon.

PAGASA weather forecast

State weather bureau PAGASA said that Tropical Depression 'Gener' continues to move westward over the West Philippine Sea.

As of 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the center of Tropical Depression 'Gener' was estimated based on all available data at 235 km West Northwest of Baguio City.

'Gener' has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 996 hPa.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is currently in effect in the areas of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and the western portion of Pangasinan (Sual, Burgos, Dasol, Mabini, Infanta, Labrador, City of Alaminos, Bani, Bolinao, Anda, Agno).

The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by 'Gener' and 'Pulasan' (Helen) will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds).

On the track forecast, 'Gener' will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight or tomorrow (September 18) early morning.
