MANILA, Philippines – Some local government units suspended classes for Monday, September 2, 2024, due to Tropical Depression “Enteng” and the southwest monsoon or habagat.

METRO MANILA

Malacañang announced the suspension of government work and classes in public and private schools in all levels in the National Capital Region (NCR).

"In view of the inclement weather brought about by the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Storm 'Enteng,' work in the government offices and classes at all levels in the National Capital Region are hereby suspended on 02 September 2024," the Office of the Executive Secretary stated in Memorandum Circular No. 62.

However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of the other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.

The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads.

PAGASA weather forecast

State weather bureau PAGASA said in its 8:00 pm bulletin that Tropical Depression 'Enteng' maintained strength and about to make landfall or pass very close to Catanduanes. It was estimated based on all available data over the coastal waters of Baras.

'Enteng' has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa.

Tropical cyclone wind signals (TCWS) No. 1 is currently up in several Luzon and Visayas areas.

'Enteng' is forecast to reach tropical storm category within the next 12 hours. It is forecast to remain at this category until early Wednesday. It may also reach a peak category of typhoon by Thursday or Friday.
