Top 2 of August 2024 Electrical Engineering Licensure Exam attributes success to improved study habits

The family and friends of Tomas Cabauatan Casauay Jr., 23 years old, are joyful after he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Cagayan State University, having placed 2nd in the August 2024 Electrical Engineering Licensure Examination.

In an interview with The Summit Express, Casauay said he is currently a part-time instructor. According to his story, he initially did not dream of becoming an Electrical Engineer but rather a Chemical Engineer. However, he didn’t want to be stuck inside a laboratory.

Additionally, when he was enrolling, he chose Electrical Engineering because the line was shorter. He also thought that Electrical Engineering was an "in-demand" job that wasn’t as saturated as Civil Engineering.

What challenges, struggles, or problems did he encounter during his college days?

“I’m used to not attending my morning classes so I struggled with my morning classes. And during the pandemic, the lack of face-to-face interaction made it difficult for me to focus during classes. I also struggled with building a good study habit since I only studied whenever I felt like studying,” he said.

He admitted that his study habits were not that good, so he focused on improving them.

“I forced myself to have a good study habit. I also focused on the subjects that I was not yet familiar with and just read and solved a lot of problems in general. I focused on the fundamentals and made sure I understood the concept of each subject. I also taught what I know to my friends to reinforce what I learned. Lastly, I always accompanied my studies with earnest prayers,” he explained.

When he found out that he passed the board exam and even became a topnotcher, he immediately shared the news with his family. Afterwards, he expressed his gratitude to his family, friends, professors, and coaches for their support during his journey to becoming a Registered Electrical Engineer. He also visited his school the following morning.

What are his plans now?

“For now, I plan on imparting my knowledge through teaching in my alma mater. I also plan developing my technical skills and knowledge on Electrical Engineering through practical experience and higher level education. I also plan on studying Law at a later time.”

What message does he have for board takers who also dream of passing the board exam or becoming a topnotcher?

“Always believe in yourself that you can pass the board exam. But don’t just have blind confidence, you should also strive hard and focus on your review. You should always aim for ‘top or pass’ instead of ‘just pass.’ And also trust in Jehovah, because he will guide you.”

Congratulations, Engr. Tomas!
