PBA player John Amores surrenders to police after Laguna shooting incident

MANILA, Philippines – PBA player John Amores is once again involved in a heavy issue, related to basketball.

On Wednesday night, September 25, the police were looking for Amores after he was involved in a shooting incident in Lumban, Laguna.

It appears from the police investigation that Amores and the victim identified as Lee Cacalda were playing basketball in Barangay Salac when they had a heated argument.

The victim reportedly followed Amores to Barangay Maytalang Uno. Amores reportedly shot the victim with a handgun.

In the CCTV video, Amores can be seen riding a motorcycle driven by his brother. Suddenly, he got off the motorcycle and fired a gunshot.

In the said shooting, the victim was not injured or harmed.

"Meron silang tawag na hindi napagkasunduan. Naghamunan ng suntukan sa Brgy. Salac then naunang umalis itong suspek natin tapos sumunod iyong victim hanggang umabot sila sa Brgy. Maytalang at doon sila nagpang-abot. Naghamunan ulit ng another na suntukan then si John Amores ay may dala nang baril at pinaputukan na yung ating victim," according to Bob Louis Ordiz, Lumban Police Chief, in an interview with 'Unang Balita' of GMA Integrated News.

Early Thursday morning, September 26, Amores surrendered to the authorities in Lumban, Laguna along with his 20-year-old brother.

Amores is now facing a charge of attempted murder.

This is not the first time that Amores has been involved in trouble in basketball because in 2022 when he was just playing at Jose Rizal University in NCAA men's basketball, he also ran amok and punched players from the College of Saint Benilde.

Currently, Amores plays for the team NorthPort in the PBA.
