Student barred from graduation ceremony now a registered nurse

The nursing graduate who went viral after being stopped by an instructor from their school while marching and approaching the stage during the commencement exercises in 2022 is now a registered nurse.

John Marcelino Rosaldo passed the Nursing Board Exam in May 2023. The results were released on June 10, 2023.

Marcelino will never forget what happened on a day that was supposed to be a joyous occasion with his family. On June 23, 2022, the graduation ceremonies were held at Lorma Colleges in San Fernando, La Union. When Marcelino lined up to go on stage, he was stopped by a clinical instructor from the school. He was told that he could not go on stage to receive his diploma because, according to them, he had not settled the graduation fee of P2,750.

However, Marcelino insisted that he had paid the fee a day before the graduation through a mobile payment service. A few moments after the graduation ceremonies, Marcelino saw an email from the school administration confirming that his payment for the graduation fee had been received. Unfortunately, it was too late as he was already unable to step on stage.

Marcelino feels that this beautiful moment was stolen from him, as well as from his family, especially when he saw his mother’s disappointment. Lorma Colleges released a statement addressing the public outcry.

So when he passed the board exam, he revisited the trending post about his traumatic graduation, one year ago.

“What happened was traumatic, embarrassing, hurtful and devastating and should not be experienced by any student,” he said.

But the good news was, he mentioned that he was already a registered nurse or RN. He is now rendering his service in a hospital.

The "nightmare" didn’t stop him from moving forward with his life. Congratulations, RN John Marcelino Rosaldo!
