In a short but heartwarming congratulatory message, Anne Gallo-Sim posted old photos with a young Jake while he was studying at Sage & Cambridge Cebu Preschool. She wrote, “LETTER FROM A TEACHER TO AN OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDALIST: Dear Jake, Remember those days in Sage & Cambridge (Lahug) Cebu preschool? Back then, you were always full of energy packed in a petite frame, but your mind and heart were b-i-i-i-g beyond measure.”
Teacher Anne beamed with pride for her former pupil. “I am so proud of you! Keep up your hard work and achievements!” she added.
Jarman’s former preschool also shared how he is a great role model and inspiration. In a statement on Facebook, it stated, “Congratulations, Jake Jarman, former Sage & Cambridge student, for winning the BRONZE in the Olympic Men’s Floor Exercise! You are an inspiration to children all over the world!”
Jarman debuted at the 2024 Paris Olympics to win a bronze medal in the artistic gymnastics men’s floor finals. It was the same event where our very own Carlos Yulo bagged his historic first Olympic gold medal.
The Olympic medalist is a proud Filipino-British gymnast whose mother, Anna, hails from Cebu. He was born in Peterborough, England, on December 3, 2001, but lived in the Philippines for two years, from the age of three to five.
Jarman's mother, a gymnast herself, may have inspired her love of gymnastics. According to her, she spotted her son’s special talent at the age of eight years old. She added, “It has been a journey. His nan, Sheila, always used to take him to the park, and one time there was a local coach who saw the usual hyper Jake and came up to say, ‘You really should take him to a local gym because he has talent.’”
The Paris Olympics is Jarman's debut Olympic appearance and also his first Olympic medal at the Olympics. He is considered his hometown’s pride, where he earlier bagged four gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
