MANILA, Philippines – The film industry is mourning the passing of the matriarch of Regal Films/Entertainment, Lily Monteverde, also known as "Mother Lily," on Sunday, August 4.
Goldwin Monteverde, Mother Lily's son, confirmed to GMA News that their mother passed away today at the age of 84. The report did not mention the cause of death. Supposedly, she will be celebrating her 85th birthday on August 19.
On July 29, 2024, her husband, Remy Monteverde, also passed away at the age of 86. He was just buried on August 3 at Heritage Park, Taguig City. Mother Lily left her children, Winston, Sherida, Roselle, Dondon, and Goldwin.
Mother Lily was still able to post about this on her Instagram on July 30, 2024. Remy was a former basketball player and was known as "Father Remy" in the film industry due to being Mother Lily's husband. Everyone knew how sweet they were to each other.
Mother Lily is considered the "matriarch" of Philippine movies because of the many high-quality films produced by her movie outfit, Regal Films/Entertainment, such as "Mano Po," "Shake, Rattle, and Roll," "Scorpio Nights," “Sister Stella L,” “Relasyon,” ‘Broken Marriage,” “Manila By Night,” and many others. Many of today's veteran actors look up to her because of her contributions to their careers, such as Gabby Concepcion, Albert Martinez, William Martinez, Alma Moreno, Snooky Serna, Ruffa Gutierrez, Richard Gomez, Maricel Soriano, and others.
Respected veteran actors such as Fernando Poe Jr., Susan Roces, Dolphy, Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, Phillip Salvador, Eddie Garcia, Christopher de Leon, Nida Blanca, and Charito Solis also made films with Regal Films.
She was also honored as the "Mother of Philippine Cinema" in 2017 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023 from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) for her contributions to Philippine cinema.
