Romualdez announced on Monday, August 5, that 'Golden Boy' will get P6 million after a historic win on Sunday, August 4, the Philippines' second gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"May pangalawang ginto na eh kaya madodoble," Romualdez told reporters on Monday.
"It's important to support and to inspire all our athletes and to recognize their achievements we're very very proud of our medalists and we are looking forward to more medals during this Olympics," he added.
The previous award was supposed to be P3 million but since he won two gold medals, the amount that will be given to Yulo has increased to P6 million.
On the other hand, P2 million is set for silver and P1 million for bronze.
Yulo also will benefit under the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act. The Incentives Act guarantees an Olympic gold medalist P10 million.
Just recently, Megaworld announced that it has upgraded its reward for 'Golden Boy' to a fully furnished three bedroom unit worth P32 million for winning two Olympic gold medals. Added to this, it comes with P3 million cash.
The said company previously offered a condo unit worth P24 million.
Yulo grabbed the gold medal in floor exercise on Saturday night and it was followed on Sunday night by another gold medal in vault in men's artistic gymnastics.
Meanwhile, Pinoy boxer Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas are also in the good run to grab a gold medal.
Petecio secured her ticket in the semifinals at the women's 57 kg division while Villegas also made it to the semis in the women's 50 kg division.
Both boxers secured at least a bronze medal after getting through to the semifinals.
