In a grand and festive celebration, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. welcomed all the country’s delegates during the Paris Olympics to Malacañang on Tuesday. Yulo, dubbed the country’s “Golden Boy,” got the heftiest reward, with Marcos “matching” the P20 million he is entitled to receive under Republic Act 10699 for winning 2 gold medals.
“You have shown the spirit of the Filipino, the determination of a Filipino and the excellence of the Filipino spirit,” Marcos said.
Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio, the bronze medalists in boxing, will also receive an additional P2 million each, matching the P2 million in incentives to which they are legally entitled. Meanwhile, the rest of the delegation who didn’t reach the podium finish still got a P1 million incentive each from Malacañang. Even the coaching staff of each delegate are also given rewards from the Office of the President amounting to P500,000.
Yulo was also conferred the Presidential Medal of Merit “for gaining prestige for the country in an international event in the fields of literature, the sciences, the arts, entertainment, and other civilian fields of endeavor, including sports that foster national pride and artistic excellence.”

“Kahit sinong atleta dito sa Pilipinas o kahit saan man, makapag-qualify lang sa Olympics, mabigat ‘yun. That is an extremely difficult achievement to have managed. Lahat ng mga atleta natin, bigyan natin basta nag-Olympics, bigyan natin tig-iisang milyon. I-mamatch pa ng Office of the President ‘yung ibibigay mo,” the President said.
The delegation paid a courtesy call to the President after touching down at the Villamor Air Base from their chartered flight from Dubai. Marcos said he aims to continue his support for the country’s athletes and the sports program.
