MANILA, Philippines – Angelica Yulo, the mother of Olympic medalist Carlos Yulo, held a press conference with Atty. Raymond Fortun on Wednesday morning, August 7, to address the alleged issues surrounding her strained relationship with him.

- Atty. Fortun appeared to clarify that all statements online associated with the name of Angelica Poquiz Yulo with the words “maramot” are untrue and are made by malicious individuals.
- The issue of the alleged money problem shouldn’t be made a big deal because “hindi dapat pinag-uusapan sa media ang bagay na iyan at hindi din dapat pinapatulan ng media yan,” he added.
- Regarding the matter of Mrs. Yulo's conflict with her son's girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, this is also typical and something that many of us have gone through. According to Atty. Fortun, “Hindi natin maalis ang pagiging concerned ng isang ina kung sino ang kinakasama ng kanyang anak. Ang tawag po diyan ay maternal instinct.”
- Mrs. Yulo opened by hearing her statement entitled, “Liham ng isang ina” which she describes as her last statement addressing the issues surrounding her relationship with Carlos and his girlfriend.
- She admitted not being a perfect mother, even Carlos is not a perfect son, and their family is also not perfect. However, she has nothing but good wishes for her son.
- “Sa paraan mang marahas, maingay, sana’y maunawaan mo na ang intensiyon ko ang malinis,” she said.
- Mrs. Yulo continued that she is simply a mother who is hurt because of her good son whom she raised to be a good person “ay hindi na nakikinig sa paggabay ng magulang.”
- At this point, she started to ask for forgiveness from her son for criticizing his girlfriend and said that she was simply a worried mother. Nevertheless, she said that Carlos is very welcome to come home.
- “Bukas ang aming pintuan sa tahanan, may pera o wala, kung nanaisin mong bumalik sa amin. Hindi na pwedeng bawiin ang nasabi na. Ang amin lang, handa ako at ang papa mo mag-usap tayo ng bukas ang loob, na may pag-unawa anumang oras na handa ka, pag uwi mo upang maayos ito,” she added.
- She reminded her son, “Ang pamilya iisa lang iyan, at laging anjan lang para sa isa’t isa sa kabila ng anong pagsubok o alitan.”
- Since Carlos' Olympic win, Mrs. Yulo hasn't talked to him, and when asked if she is now willing to make efforts to personally talk to him, she said that it would be a private, family matter.
- Although Mrs. Yulo intends to ask the PNP Crime Lab for help in identifying the people disseminating malicious and false news, Atty. Fortun said he would rather “leave it to God.”
- According to Atty. Fortun, Mrs. Yulo was not in her right mind and disposition when she made statements against her son to the public, and she’s now very apologetic and sorry about it.
- Her response to the question of whether she would accept her son's girlfriend after all was "no comment” but later on the interview said, “Siguro po.”
- When asked for advice on how Carlos should handle his incentives, Mrs. Yulo replied: “Wala akong masasabi kasi panalo na iyan, so kaniya ‘yan."
- Atty Fortun admitted he was the one who suggested that Mrs. Yulo speak up following Carlos’ statement yesterday. The statements made by Mrs. Yulo were entirely her own.
- Mrs. Yulo also explained her controversial “Japan lang malakas” statement saying she meant no harm and only wanted it become a motivation to her children. “Nabigyan ng ibang meaning ng tao. Natuwa lang po kasi nakasama po siya ni Eldrew sa Japan nung nag-training camp siya,” she said.
- She also admitted that she blocked Carlos on Messenger and unfriended him on Facebook for her “peace of mind.”
Earlier, Carlos spoke up to address matters about the reasons behind his strained relationship with his mom, which also involved his relationship with his girlfriend.
