MANILA, Philippines – Some local government units announced class suspensions for Monday, July 29, 2024 to give way for the clearing operations and to give students and their families more time to recover after the onslaught of Typhoon Carina and Southwest Monsoon.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) said it will put off the opening of classes for School Year 2024-2025 on July 29, in 979 public schools nationwide.
The data is based on July 28 2:30 p.m. update from DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, detailing the list of schools that will postpone the opening of new school year. The new opening date was also indicated.
"The Department of Education Central Office has already notified the regional directors and schools through their respective school division superintendents," Angara said in a statement.
Region III (Central Luzon) topped the list with 452 schools postponing the opening of classes. It was followed by Region 1 and Metro Manila with 231 and 225, respectively.
