MANILA, Philippines – Pinoy boxer Carlo Paalam is just one win away from securing another Olympic medal!

The 26-year-old amateur boxer from Bukidnon will advance to the Paris 2024 Olympics quarterfinals after defeating Irish fighter, 22-year-old Jude Gallagher in the Round of 16 of men's 57kg division on Wednesday night, July 31 (Philippine time).

The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist won via unanimous decision despite a slow start.

Paalam dominated the third round, a perfect 5/5 outing for the Filipino pugilist.

The judges scored the fight, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

"Mautak rin kalaban, matangkad din so pinapaopen ko siya para yung punch ko clear," Paalam said in an interview after the fight.

The quest for an Olympic gold continues for Paalam as he is set to face Australia's Charlie Senior on August 3 (Saturday).

Earlier, Pinay boxer Nesthy Peteciomanaged to get a dominant win against Jaismine Lamboria of India at the Round of 32 women's 57 kg division. She will advance to boxing Round of 16.
