84-year-old woman touches hearts for pursuing to become CPA

Aside from poverty, it can be said that a person's age is not really a barrier to achieving their dreams.

The netizens were impressed by a grandmother who took the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination (CPALE) in May 2024.

In a viral Facebook post by someone named "Dez Francisco," she featured a senior citizen carrying a plastic envelope containing pencils and a calculator, ready to take the board exam. The mentioned grandmother, Filipina Adele Balite, is 84 years old. Dez was at the exam location because she had friends who also took the CPALE. She decided to post about Lola Filipina on social media because she was impressed by her dedication to her dream of becoming an accountant.

“Sobrang na-inspire po kasi ako nung nakita ko si lola. Despite her age, patuloy pa rin siya sa pangarap niya maging CPA. Kaya grabe saludo talaga,” Dez said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

For the meantime, Lola Filipina narrated that 1982 was the first time she took the board exam. She did not pass then and did not have the opportunity to take another board exam. She worked as a bookkeeper for several years and temporarily set aside her dream of becoming a CPA. However, at the age of 84, she decided to take a chance on the opportunity to reach her dream.

She was offered a scholarship and many people supported her by providing reading materials, which motivated the senior citizen to study, especially for the review.

Even though grandma Filipina did not pass the board exam on her second attempt, she did not lose heart. Instead, she wants to try again.

Meanwhile, Dez's viral video featuring Filipina has garnered 5.5k reactions and 2.4 million views, as of this writing.
