#WalangPasok: Class suspensions for Thursday, April 11, 2024

MANILA, Philippines – Several local government units (LGUs) announced suspension of face-to-face classes and adjustment of schedule for Thursday, April 11, 2024, due to the anticipated high heat index exceeding 40°C.

The Department of Education (DepEd) earlier said that some schools are implementing alternative delivery mode, including online and modular methods amid the suspension of classes.

Based on the PAGASA’s forecast of heat index, a total of five areas will fall under “danger category” on Thursday.

This includes Dagupan City in Pangasinan, Bacnotan in La Union, Puerto Princesa in Palawan, Aborlan in Palawan and Roxas City in Capiz.

Here's the list of class suspensions and adjustments for Thursday, April 11, 2024:

METRO MANILA

  • Caloocan City
  • Makati City – shortened schedule of classes, 6AM to 10AM for morning shifts and 3:30PM to 7:30PM for afternoon shifts

BICOL REGION

  • Daraga, Albay – shift to modular and online class, all levels (public and private); April 11 to 12

CAGAYAN REGION

  • Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya – shift to asynchronous class (public and private)

CENTRAL LUZON

  • Bulacan province – shift to online classes, all levels (public and private); April 11 to 13

ILOCOS REGION

  • Mangaldan, Pangasinan – shift to online or modular classes, preschool to senior high school (public and private)

VISAYAS

  • Asturias, Cebu – no face-to-face classes, all levels (public); until April 12
  • Compostela, Cebu – no face-to-face classes, all levels (public and private); until April 12
  • Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu – no face-to-face classes, preschool to senior high school (public); until April 12
  • Liloan, Cebu – no face-to-face classes, all levels (public); until April 12
  • Naga City, Cebu– no face-to-face classes, all levels (public); until April 14
  • San Francisco, Cebu– no face-to-face classes, all levels (public); until April 13
  • Sibonga, Cebu– no face-to-face classes, all levels (public); until April 12
  • Talisay City, Cebu – no face-to-face classes, all levels (public); until April 14
  • Toledo City, Cebu – no face-to-face classes, all levels (public); until April 13

MINDANAO

  • Sarangani – no face-to-face classes, all levels (public and private); until April 19
  • Banga, South Cotabato – no afternoon face-to-face classes, primary to secondary (public and private); until April 15
  • Polomolok, South Cotabato – no afternoon face-to-face classes, all levels (public and private); until April 15
  • Tantangan, South Cotabato – no afternoon face-to-face classes, all levels; until April 15
  • T'boli, South Cotabato – no afternoon face-to-face classes, all levels (public and private); until April 12
  • Tupi, South Cotabato – no afternoon face-to-face classes, primary to secondary (public and private); until April 12
  • Norala, South Cotabato – no face-to-face classes, all levels (public and private); every Tuesday and Thursday until April 12
  • Sultan Kudarat – no face-to-face classes, all levels; until April 15

Based on the Department of Education Order No. 37 series of 2022, private schools have full discretion to decide on their class suspensions provided that they have proper facilities to accommodate onsite classes during extreme heat conditions.

LGUs advised the public to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and take necessary precautions to avoid heat emergencies.
