Feminism is a socio-political movement and ideology that advocates for the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. It seeks to challenge and dismantle gender-based inequalities and discrimination that disproportionately affect women and marginalized genders. Feminism addresses a wide range of issues, including but not limited to reproductive rights, workplace discrimination, gender-based violence, equal pay, access to education, and representation in media and politics.
It is not a monolithic movement; rather, it encompasses various perspectives and approaches, including liberal feminism, radical feminism, socialist feminism, intersectional feminism, and ecofeminism, among others. These different strands of feminism emphasize different aspects of gender inequality and offer different strategies for addressing them.
Overall, it aims to create a more just and equitable society where people of all genders have equal rights, opportunities, and freedoms. It also challenges traditional gender roles and stereotypes that limit individuals' choices and potential based on their gender.
In the present time, it is widely accepted by many that women are capable of doing things that enable them to compete with men, such as pursuing a Criminology degree in college and becoming a police officer or soldier in the future.
Just like Maria Ria Velasquez, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology in 2022 from the Philippine College of Criminology and became the fifth placer in the April 2023 Licensure Examination for Criminologists.

Velasquez was featured in her school's official student publication, the "PCCR Imprint," which went viral due to her inspiring statement, perfectly timed for the celebration of Women's Month in March.
According to Velasquez, women are very capable of keeping up with men. They always give their best in everything they do, but they should also not forget to enjoy life.
She said, “𝘒𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘴𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘦 𝘴𝘢 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘬𝘪, 𝘬𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘵 𝘱𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺.”
