‘Not just one, but three!’ Two more resorts built in Chocolate Hills

MANILA, Philippines – If the netizens, celebrities, and politicians are already complaining about the construction of a resort within the vicinity of the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, what more if it is discovered that two more resorts have been built here?

In a report, House Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo expressed strong indignation over the construction of two additional resorts within the protected zone of the renowned Chocolate Hills in Bohol.

Recall that Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort was previously showcased on a vlog by "Ren The Adventurer," prompting people to question how this establishment has been permitted to operate, raising concerns that authorities need to address.

Earlier, authorities mandated the closure of Captain’s Peak resort located amidst the Chocolate Hills due to its failure to acquire essential government permits, such as the environmental clearance certificate and tourism business permit.

Tulfo, representing the ACT-CIS party-list, raised concerns about the construction of the resort within the protected natural monument in his recent Facebook update. The former broadcaster turned politician shared two images of the structures on social media.

He said on his Facebook post this Friday, March 15, “BREAKING NEWS!!!
BESIDE CAPTAIN'S PEAK RESORT THERE ARE 2 MORE RESORTS IN CHOCOLATE HILLS... SAGBAYAN PEAK AND LA BATIANG RESORT.
WOW THEY TORE CHOCOLATE HILLS UP.”

Gretchen Ho, a television personality in TV5, shared images of what are claimed to be two more resorts constructed in the Chocolate Hills on her X account through retweets.

According to Gretchen, the manager of Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort Julieta Sablas revealed it.

“Julieta Sablas, manager of Captain’s Peak Resort revealed on #TheBigStory last night that there are at least two other resorts on the Chocolate Hills,” she said.

“She also said that the DENR-PAMB already investigated last year when they first trended, and said they were compliant with only “20%” of the structures on the hills themselves,” she added.

Chocolate Hills were designated as a protected area on July 1, 1997, under Proclamation No. 1037 issued by former President Fidel V. Ramos. It was also declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, officially in 2023.
