MANILA, Philippines – Who wouldn't want to win the lottery, especially if the cash prize is in the millions?
The Lotto 6/42 drawn on December 28, 2023 had a lucky winner from San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
According to a Facebook post on the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Facebook page, a plain housewife from Bulacan won a whopping Php 43,882,361.60. She claimed her prize at the PCSO Main Office located in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City.
The winning combination for the lucky bettor was 18-34-01-11-28-04.
"The lucky winner shared that she placed the bet since the number ‘28’ often represents a car and ‘34’ a house. She disclosed that she plans to invest her winnings in business, buy a new home, and deposit the rest into her two children’s savings accounts," it can be read.
In the comment section, aside from many expressing well-wishes and congratulations to the winning bettor, some netizens also seemed to have noticed something in the accompanying photo, as mentioned in the post.
Here are some comments:
"Ang galing ng editor nito ah"
"Ang galing naman mag.photoshop pcso. Congratulations hahahah"
"Bakit parang standee si ateng nag-claim?"
"Muntik pa maging edited."
"Bakit parang may something sa pic?"
“Kaduda-duda naman na parang edited ‘yong pic ni Ateng?”
Even the social media personality Rendon Labador called out PCSO regarding the matter.
He said in a 43-second video, “Naglabas ang PCSO ng edited winner ng 43 million.
Finally, in an interview with “Unang Hirit” this Thursday, January 18, 2024, PCSO General Manager Mel Robles admitted that the photo was edited “for security purposes.”
“Buong mundo po wala po talagang nagpapakita unless gusto niya. Sabi ko nga kung natatawa sila na inedit ‘yong palda eh sa ibang bansa po mascot pa nga ang isinusuot,” he said.
“Ah talagang ineedit n’yo?” one of the hosts Arnold Clavio asked.
“Ine-edit po talaga ‘yon… ang objective po talaga is to keep the anonymity. Pero… we have to show the people na may totoong nanalo at the same time without violating naman ‘yong privacy niya…” he stated.
It was reiterated during the session of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means chaired by Senator Raffy Tulfo.
“We have to protect the identity of the winner. Mayroon pong nagreklamo sa amin one time, we covered the face, eh ‘yong damit naman po ay nakilala. Nagreklamo siya, sana naman po ‘wag naman ipakita po ‘yong damit,” he reiterated.
“So ‘yan po ang reason niyan and I agree it’s a very poor editing pero the objective is to conceal the clothing na maidentify sa kanya,” he added.
Tulfo inquired why the clothes needed to be edited. Robles explained that there was a chance the lucky winner's neighbor might discover them wearing their favorite outfit.
“If there’s something we apologize for, it’s the poor editing, but it has served its purpose of concealing the identity. We’re sorry we’re not very good at editing the clothes.”
He said that despite the photo being edited, the lone bettor who claimed her cash prize was a real and true person.
