Any effort and patience, as long as accompanied by trust in God and oneself, will surely bear beautiful fruits in the future!
The story of struggle and triumph of Engineer Mark Allen Armenion from Cebu City continues to inspire on social media. He ranked 2nd in the February 2022 Mechanical Engineering board exam.
It was revealed that he juggled studying with working as a porter at Warwick Barracks, Carbon Market, in the mentioned city.
He is the fourth and youngest among four siblings. His mother, Marites Armenion, sells "uling" in Carbon, while his father, Rene Armenion, serves as a cook for lechon. However, it's worth noting that his parents are no longer together.
He expressed that at one point, he doubted he would graduate due to financial difficulties and family challenges. He faced frequent absences in school and experienced academic setbacks, including failures in both elementary and high school.
He experienced failure in Grade 3 at Mandaue City Central Elementary School. Similarly, during his secondary education at Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School, he faced the same fate in his Third Year.
During his elementary and high school years, he worked as a market helper or porter in Carbon to support himself financially.
Subsequently, he enrolled at the University of Cebu – Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UC-LM) and took on the role of a working student in his Second Year.
However, faced with another challenge, their house in Mandaue City was demolished, compelling them to relocate back to Carbon. Along with the change in residence, he also transferred to UC-main.
Even though his family is reportedly burdened with debt, they are very supportive when it comes to his education. This motivated him to strive for academic excellence. However, as a transferee, he did not receive honors such as Cum Laude recognition.
Therefore, he decided to make up for it in the board exam.
He aspired to be the top 1, so he admitted that he felt somewhat disappointed when the results came out, and he landed as the top 2. He openly acknowledged that while the cash incentives for UC topnotchers served as a motivating factor, his primary inspiration came from his parents.
Armenion secured the 2nd position with a score of 95.70 percent, closely trailing the top scorer from Visayas State University (VSU)-Baybay City, who achieved a score of 96.60, just one point ahead.
"I'm proud to say that all of my hard work paid off. I passed the board exam with flying colors and became a licensed mechanical engineer," Engr. Mark Allen shared in a Facebook post.
After nearly two years, The Summit Express checked in with Engineer Mark Allen and learned that he is currently working as site engineer and a instructor at a review center.
