MANILA, Philippines – As Filipinos await declaration for another holiday after New Year's Day, the Malacañang Palace made a clarification on Friday.
Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil said that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has not issued a proclamation declaring January 2, 2024, Tuesday a special non-working day.
“Wala po (There is none),” Garafil said in a message to reporters.
January 1, a Monday, was declared by the President as a holiday, based on Proclamation No. 368.
Note that Jan. 2, 2024, a Tuesday, is not part of the 2024 holiday list that Office of the President has released.

In the Department of Education (DepEd) calendar, it says that classes shall resume on January 3, 2024 (Wednesday).

Marcos, through Proclamation No. 425, declared December 26, 2023 a special non-working day "to give Filipino people more time to celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones."
President Marcos added that “a longer weekend will also promote domestic tourism” as Christmas Day, which is observed as a regular holiday throughout the country, falls on a Monday.
