“After 2 major surgeries, 8 sessions of chemotherapy, and countless heartbreaks, I finally made it.”
The Facebook post of Atty. Jann Danae A. Aninag stirred the emotions of netizens after she narrated the struggles she went through before finally achieving the title of "attorney" through the 2023 Bar examinations.
Aside from her academic struggles to navigate through the field of law, she faced an unexpected battle related to her health.
“When I was about to take my first bar, the Lord said, not yet. While everyone was slaying that 2020-21 bar, I was slaying the cancer dragon. Yes, cancer,” she stated on her Facebook post.
In addition to cancer, she also encountered heart-related issues.
“I was diagnosed with colon cancer months before review proper. As if the first heart surgery I went through during law school was not enough. I cried; I was broken but I fought. I fought hard. Luckily (oh, the irony), I won that fight. Live, said the Lord. I still have a lot in store for you my child, He said.”
Aside from health challenges, Aninag also did not pass in her initial attempt to become a full-fledged and licensed lawyer.
“That’s when I started to question everything, even the Lord. I was so tired. I wanted to raise that white flag and just die.”
“I still prayed but no longer sincere. Napapatanong na lang ako, kailan niyo po ba ako planong tanggalin sa listahan ng ‘strongest soldiers’ niyo? Pagod na po kasi ako. And pagod is an understatement. 😮💨.”
But as they say, where there is darkness, there is also light; if it gets cloudy and rains, it will clear up and the sun will shine again. Their business in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, has become successful, and she finally passed the Bar exam on her second attempt.
Moreover, her partner also proposed to her, as if conveying that God is granting her someone who will love and care for her for a lifetime.
“Opo, abogado na po ako,” she said.
“If you’ll ask me about this journey, you’ll never hear me say that it was all about grit. My story is far from that. It’s about faith. Faith that the Lord will carry you through it; that He will bring you through it; and that He will one day fulfill His promise - a breakthrough. Lord, it was all You. Thank you!”
At the end of her heartfelt post, Atty. Jann expressed her gratitude to the people who have been instrumental in her journey.
In the exclusive interview with The Summit Express, Atty. Jann expressed gratitude to her parents, sister, relatives and significant others. She also thanked her fiancé, who consistently drives her to and from school.
“I would like to thank my parents, Papa Romulo and Mama Ronilda, who filled my cup when it was empty. You’ve been resilient when I was weak. You’ve been my compass when I felt so lost. You fought when I was raising that white flag. Thank you.”
“To my sister, Mikay, thank you for your sacrifices.”
“To my fiancé, Ariane, thank you for doing your best to be with me during the review despite your busy schedule.”
“To my Aninag and Aoalin family, thank you for the love and the support.”
“To the Benedictine Nuns, who fervently prayed for me, thank you.”
“To my friends, thank you for understanding my absence during your breakthrough.”
“Above all, thank you Lord for bringing me here. Truly, I am nothing without you.”
