This young man, who was also an achiever in high school, continued his diligence and excellence in academics through college, eventually graduating with flying colors. In his appreciation post on Facebook on April 29, he expressed gratitude to those who greatly assisted him in passing the board exam; being ranked fourth was just an additional bonus.
“Finally, I can now call myself an engineer,” he said.
“To Mapua University, thank you for preparing me to face the struggles of becoming a civil engineer. Also, for allowing me to study in the institution without any cost.”
“To the Science Education Institute - Department of Science and Technology, thank you for supporting my entire college education under your scholarship program.”
“To Megareview and Margallo Review, thank you for helping me pass the Civil Engineering Licensure Exam and land a spot on the list of topnotchers.”
“Lastly, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to those who stayed and supported me in achieving this dream. Your support pushed me to strive for excellence.”
“To God be the Glory!”
With a rating of 90%, Engr. de Lara secured the 4th spot in the Top 10 passers of the above mentioned licensure examination.
In an exclusive interview with The Summit Express, Alex shared some tips on how a board taker should prepare for the examination, both before and during the test. These insights are applicable not only to those taking the CE Board Exam but to everyone.
During review:
1. Develop your own study routine. Having a study routine/schedule will greatly improve your efficiency in studying.
2. Have a copy of the topics covered by the board exam. This will allow you to have a wider view of what you will be facing during your exams.
3. Practice, practice, practice. The licensure exams for Civil Engineers mostly consist of problem solving questions. By practicing, you can easily remember the process of solving one problem.
4. Always aim high and strive for excellence. If you can, aim for the perfect score!
5. Trust in yourself and in God. You had months to prepare for this licensure exam, believe in yourself that you can achieve whatever you are aiming for. This may be your last examination you will be taking on your entire life so give it your best!
During the actual exam:
1. Take your time in answering questions. If you have trouble answering one question, pause for a moment and breathe.
2. Make sure to bring candies, always feed your brain with sugar.
3. Answer easy questions first, this will save you a lot of time in the long run.
At present, Alex works as a part-time instructor at Mapua, his alma mater, while managing their family construction supply business, "Steel Beams Construction & Industrial Formwork Supply Co.," on a full-time basis.
Congratulations, Alex!
