‘Saluyot’ gift of a pupil for his teacher on Teachers’ Day gains heartwarming reactions

MANILA, Philippines – On October 5, the entire country celebrated "World Teachers' Day," a special day dedicated to honoring beloved teachers who serve as second parents to their students, both inside and sometimes even outside the school.

Students found various ways and creative gestures to bring smiles, joy, and make their teachers feel special on their special day: some performed, some organized small programs, some wrote and gave letters, and some gave gifts like food, supplies, or flowers.

But in the reality of life, especially in public schools, not everyone can afford to contribute to class funds or buy gifts for their beloved teachers.

Some have chosen to simply think of their own simple, practical, and affordable ways to somehow convey their love to their teacher.

The netizens' hearts seemed to melt from the story shared by Teacher Luisa Casuga Conmigo on her Facebook account recently.

Instead of chocolates and flowers, Ma'am Luisa received a bundle of jute leaves (saluyot) from her student in celebration of Teachers’ Day.

According to Ma'am Luisa's story, her student Jerick was apparently shy about giving the said gift.

But she reassured the child and said that it didn't matter whether they had a gift or not because she saw them all equally. What mattered was that they were together on the day of the celebration.

It can be read, “The sweetest gift I [received] this World Teachers Day 2023 thank you Jerick.”

“Teacher Luisa: Alam mo anak Jerick... meron man o wala kayong maibibigay sa akin ngayon Teachers Day.

“You are true and humble and you care for me.

In an interview, Teacher Luisa expressed how happy she was with the simple gift that Jerick gave her.

As of press time, Teacher Luisa's viral post has garnered 130,000 reactions and 23,000 shares.
