MANILA, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas is set to regain basketball supremacy in Asia!
The Philippines is a win away from the Asian baskestball gold as it faces Jordan in the final match tonight, October 6 in Hangzhou, China.
The country advanced to the gold medal round for the first time in 33 years, thanks to the ever reliable naturalized player Justin Brownlee as he and Team Gilas stunned host China in the dying minutes of the semifinals on Wednesday, 77-76.

Brownlee delivered 7-of-12 from the three-point area and finished with 33 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter.
The last time the Philippines had a gold medal finish in the Asian Games men’s basketball event was in 1962 during the Jakarta, Indonesia Asian Games.
Prior to the last Asiad gold, the Philippines used to be the kings of basketball in the continent with 4 golds in total.

Tonight, the Filipinos will aim for the nation’s 5th gold in the basketball event against formidable Team Jordan spearheaded by Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.
Hollis-Jefferson is averaging 19 points, with his team won all of their first five games of the tournament decisively by a margin of 24.2 points. Jordan also defeated the Philippines, 87-62 on September 30 during the preliminary stage.
