Qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics was simply not enough for Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial. He craved for more, he wanted the golden gloves at the Asian Games.

As Marcial entered the ring from the dugout, his eyes spoke that he wanted a piece of his Chinese opponent, Tuo Tanglatihan.

Coming from back-to-back knockout wins, Marcial was looking for another one and hoped it will be in the finals.

Though smaller, the Filipino relentlessly poured various combinations in the body and the head of the taller Chinese fighter.

Marcial caught the Chinese with a hook at the 35th mark and was awarded with a standing eight count.

All in all, Marcial did well in the first 3 minutes of the fight.

Marcial showed no sign of slowing down in the second round. The Pinoy boxer kept on pushing forward and throwing combos to the Chinese.

The Chinese however, scored his own standing eight count after tagging Marcial under 2 minutes.

Marcial bounced back in the dying seconds of the second. However, with the standing eight, the round went in favor of China.

Entering the final canto with a deadlock, Marcial intensified his attacks with caution, unleashing his fearful right hook to the chin of Tanglatihan.

The Chinese connected a few jabs but no powerful and clear shots landed. Marcial on the other hand, slowly but surely dropped some heavy hands but failed to knock out Tanglatihan.

As the final bell rang, both fighters left their fate into the hands of the judges.

The boxing gods were not on Marcial’s side this time as the judges unanimously declared Tanglatihan as the champion of the men’s 80kg division.

Marcial clinched the second silver medal for the Philippines and an Olympic ticket next year in Paris, France.
