Earthquake today: Magnitude 5.0 tremor hits Calaca, Batangas

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck near Calaca, Batangas on Friday the 13th, October 2023, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said it traced the epicenter of the earthquake 5 kilometers southwest of Calaca in Batangas. It had a depth of 14 kilometers.

The earthquake, recorded at 08:24 AM, was of tectonic origin.

Some parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces like Bulacan, Cavite and Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, Mindoro and Marinduque also experienced tremors.

Phivolcs added that damage and aftershocks may be expected.
