MANILA, Philippines – The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has issued a statement regarding Joey de Leon's remark about “mga bagay na isinasabit sa leeg” ("things hanging on the neck") in a segment of their noontime show E.A.T. on TV5.

In the segment of E.A.T. called "Gimme 5: Game of Geniuses" last Saturday, September 23, where Joey and Vic Sotto were the main hosts, a contestant was asked to provide things that are worn around the neck.

“Lubid, lubid. Nakakalimutan n’yo,”Joey suddenly quipped in response to the question, accompanied by laughter. As a result, the comedy host received criticism on social media, especially that mental health concerns are a hot topic nowadays.

Because of Joey's mentioned "rope" remark, he immediately became a trending topic on X because it was said to be triggering "suicide."

Because of this, netizens called out the attention of Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chair Lala Sotto to address the issue and take action about it.

In a statement released on Monday, September 25, the MTRCB announced that they will conduct an "examination" regarding alleged complaints about the E.A.T. program.

"Taking cognizance of the complaints from the viewing public in relation to the E.A.T. Gimme 5 segment aired last September 23, 2023, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) shall determine if the same are valid and potentially in violation of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and/or its Implementing Rules and Regulations," the MTRCB statement said.

Meanwhile, Joey, the management of E.A.T., or even TV5, has not yet issued an official statement about it.
