MTRCB denies 'It's Showtime' motion for reconsideration

MANILA, Philippines – The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) released a resolution on Thursday, September 28 denying the Motions for Reconsideration (MR) filed by GMA Network and ABS-CBN Corporation on the suspension of noontime program “It’s Showtime!”.

Said MR sought relief from the Board's ruling dated August 17, 2023, regarding the July 25, 2023 episode of 'It's Showtime!"

The MTRCB had initially imposed suspension of the show for twelve (12) airing days following its receipt of a number of complaints.

"Viewers have lodged multiple complaints before the MTRCB concerning the show’s 25 July 2023 episode wherein the program’s hosts allegedly acted in an indecent manner during one of its segments, “Isip Bata,” MTRCB said.

In the episode, Vice and Ion, who wed in a non-legal ceremony in Las Vegas last year, can be seen eating a cake. The complaint accused the hosts of "indecent acts" and alleged to have violated Section 3 (c) of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.

Throughout the duration of this case, ABS-CBN said they collaborated closely with the MTRCB to ensure that "It's Showtime" continued to deliver joy and entertainment to its noontime audience.

MTRCB chairperson Lala Sotto said the networks can file an appeal to the Office of the President within 15 days.
