MANILA, Philippines – A medical technologist who recently passed the March 2023 MedTech Licensure Exam (MTLE) was killed in a truck accident in Davao City.
According to Captain Hazel Tuazon, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office, the victim was Lyra Martin Marcito. A new MedTech graduate, 24-year-old, single, and a resident of Saliao Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat.
Initial investigation Marcito was crossing a pedestrian lane along MacArthur Highway in Dumoy, at 9:02 p.m. on June 27, Tuesday. An Isuzu wing van hit her, killing her on the spot.
The truck driver was identified as a married man named Renato Garciano, 51 years old.
According to the initial investigation, Garciano was driving and occupying the inner lane of the road. Upon reaching Dumoy, he accidentally hit Marcito, who was crossing the street. Reports said the driver admitted his negligence. He is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
Rescuers from the responding Barangay Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office attended to the victim, who sadly did not survive the accident. Marcito's remains were brought to St.Peter Funeral Services in Panacan, Bunawan District.
