MANILA, Philippines – Former Tawag ng Tanghalan contestant, 28-year-old Mark Ken Mariscal, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident in Davao City. The incident occurred on Sunday at midnight along Cabantian Road, Davao City. Mariscal gained recognition four years ago as a participant in the popular singing competition, "Tawag ng Tanghalan," featured on It's Showtime.
According to Police Major Joenel Pederio, the station commander of Buhangin Police Station No. 5, Mariscal was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Ruben Borgonia. The investigation revealed that around 2:45 a.m. on July 9, 2023, while traveling towards Barangay Indangan, they made a brief stop to use the bathroom. As Mariscal dismounted from the motorcycle, he lost his balance and fell onto the road.
Borgonia attempted to signal a passing white vehicle for assistance, but tragically, the vehicle did not stop and ran over Mariscal. Despite being rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for urgent medical attention, Mariscal was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Davao City Police Office is actively pursuing the case, seeking to identify the hit-and-run driver and the vehicle involved. They urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Mariscal, known for his love for music, had performed in well-known entertainment venues in Davao City and Metro Manila. In 2018, he represented Mindanao in the Tawag ng Tanghalan competition.
Mariscal's family expressed their grief over the fatal accident in a Facebook post.
