MANILA, Philippines – Ma. Dani Vi Patal Edrad recently went viral when she became the lone passer of the Real Estate Consultant Licensure Examinations. But aside from her impressive performance, she’s also proud of another life achievement: surviving cancer.
In an episode of Eat Bulaga’s “Bawal Judgmental,” she revealed that she’s now working at Bangko Sentral Pilipinas as a real-estate consultant and that she has made it a life goal to help others. This life goal has been ingrained in her since she survived cancer. She’s motivated by her desire to make the most of her second life and remember her father's advice to make the most of her life to help others.
Even when she travels, she also makes a point of giving to vendors, homeless people, those asking for alms, and those in need.
Edrad shared her battle with bone cancer at the young age of 5. She recalled beginning to experience leg pain, particularly at night or in cold weather. She kept her pain from her parents because she feared she would be scolded.
At that point, her parents had to face the worst-case scenario: either her leg would be amputated or she would die. They didn’t have enough money to buy a wheelchair, and her parents didn’t want her leg amputated. Fortunately, they sought a second opinion and discovered a good doctor who was able to help her keep her leg and medications until she recovered.
“Seven years old po na-kafully recovered po ako.
As a cancer survivor, Edrad hopes to inspire others to appreciate their blessings and learn to give back to those in need.
Edrad was the only one who passed the written exam on December 7, 2022, and the revalida on January 9, 2023, as announced by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in January 2023. She’s a graduate of the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
