Carl Audric Guia is on his way to fulfilling his dream of studying abroad after getting accepted and receiving scholarship offers from 4 of the most prestigious universities in the US.

He excitedly wrote on Facebook, "So today, I got accepted to three of the most selective schools in the world—Harvard, Yale, and Princeton!!! Someone, please wake me up right now!!! Edit: I also got into Stanford."

Carl is currently studying at the UP Rural High School in Los Baños, under the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) strand. In an interview with Smart Parenting, he said he is interested in studying Physics and Astronomy and hopes to earn a PhD in Astrophysics in the future.

He recalled how he used to read her grandmother's encyclopedias about solar systems. Since then, he has indulged himself in learning more about astrophysics online and reading about great astrophysicists like Neil deGrasse Tyson and Carl Sagan.

In another interview, Carl revealed that he's thankful that he was mentored by non-profit organizations like CAUSE Philippines and EducationUSA for the application process. He said the whole application process for applying to top US schools was difficult.

According to Carl, having good grades will "get your foot in the door," but they aren't enough. There are essays that require you to show your personality, perseverance, and what makes you stand out above the rest.

"These schools genuinely want to know your way of thinking and your personality, so the challenge is highlighting what's special about you beyond your grades and achievements," Carl shared.

Asked about his parents' reaction, Carl said they are extremely overwhelmed with the opportunities. He said his parents are all excited, especially because he got full scholarship offers, which means they will not have to spend any money on anything.

Like Carl, another Pinoy teen, Aryenne Ysabelle Rodrigo, also got full scholarship offers from top US schools, Harvard, Princeton, and Amherst.
