MANILA, Philippines – Sidrey Mel Flores topped the March 2023 Medical Technologists Licensure Examination (MTLE) as announced by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Tuesday, March 14.

Flores, a summa cum laude graduate of Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod (CSA-B), ranked No. 1 in the recent Medtech boards with a score of 92.10% among the 6,164 examinees who took the test on March 8 and 9. He is considered the first-ever summa cum laude of the university’s Medical Technology course program.
The top performer revealed that he intends to become a doctor. And with his achievement, he believes he is on the right track as God intended for him. "But knowing that God has really planned this for me, I'm so happy He gave the No. 1 to me," he said.
Flores claims he adopted a "holistic approach" to studying for the exam, preparing physically as well as spiritually.
"So, coming into the board exam, I was really prepared by strengthening my body, eating healthy food, and aside from having a disciplined routine, I also gave time for leisure, rest, and creating schedules to follow to finish all the subjects to study for that day."
Flores has been a consistent academic achiever from grade school to being a valedictorian in high school at the University of St. La Salle (USLS). He also became the editor-in-chief of the campus publication, Kapawa at the Liceo-De La Salle.
He advises those aspiring and preparing to pass their licensure exams to strongly believe in oneself. He said, "Just believe in yourself. It's all about the mindset that you can do it. Have the mental fortitude to surpass your mental struggles and emerge victorious.”
On Facebook, he said it seems impossible how a “boy from the province” was able to top the Medtech board, but he did it with God’s grace. He wrote, “To think that a blood-fearing boy from the province can claim the highest spot in the boards [that many covet] almost seemed impossible to achieve. But against all odds and by His grace, I did.”
The topnotcher is the son of Rommel Flores, a Barangay Captain, and his wife, Venus Aldeguer.
