MANILA, Philippines – Actor Vhong Navarro gets his temporary release from jail after posting a bail of P1 million on Tuesday, December 6.
Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 69 Judge Loralie Cruz Datahan granted Navarro's petition for bail on Monday, December 5. Judge Datahan stated in a 21-page order that they will still be able to reach a decision on the case despite the granting of bail.
"The bail of the accused for his provisional liberty is hereby fixed at PHP1 million," the court said.
"It must be emphasized, however, that a grant of bail does not prevent the court, as trier of facts, from making a final assessment of the evidence after full trial on the merits," it added.
He is facing acts of lasciviousness and rape cases from model Deniece Cornejo, which have been previously dismissed. However, these cases were revived when Taguig Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 116 Judge Angela Francesca Din found probable cause. Navarro surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to post bail for acts of lasciviousness, only to be met with a non-bailable rape case.
The actor was detained for more than 2 months. He was detained at the NBI for 2 months and spent another 2 weeks at the Taguig City Jail.
Tanya Bautista, Navarro's wife, who has been vocal about their predicament, fetched her husband from Taguig City Jail.
According to Bautista, their family is overjoyed that Navarro will be spending the holidays with them. She added that they have faith in the justice system, and finally they're seeing progress.
"Sobrang happy. It’s going to be a blessed Christmas, a very good Christmas for the family,” she said.
“We deal with things one day at a time. Sumusunod lang tayo sa process. This time, ito na ‘yon, we were granted bail, and we are so thankful," she added.
During his release, the inmates were said to have been chanting “Vhong Navarro! Vhong Navarro!” as he left.
