MANILA, Philippines – The ‘King of Talk’ Boy Abunda officially bids goodbye to ABS-CBN as he signed his management contract with GMA Network on Thursday, December 15.
This also confirmed his return to the Kapuso Network after two decades.
“I will commit to working hard, to doing the best I can to be able to deliver the best entertainment [and] shows that I am going to do with GMA-7,” he said during the contract signing.
Abunda said his focus will still be doing interviews. “Naniniwala ako sa kapangyarihan ng interview. Kahit ano man ang aking gawin, mayroong interview component. But I’d like to reinvent, reimagine interview tools para may bagong mai-offer.”
Asked about why he returned to GMA Network, the King of Talk said it took a long time before things fell into place.
“Matagal na usapan. Bakit ako narito? Dahil nawalan ako ng tahanan. Nawalan ako ng show at sabi ko nga kanina, I’m being welcomed buong puso ng GMA-7.”
Prior to his network transfer, Abunda revealed how he longed to be back on TV. “I wanna go back to television. That much I will say — I wanna go back to television," he said.
While he's active on his YouTube channel, Abunda said he's no expert on the digital platform.
“Ako ay napunta sa digital platform by circumstance. Hindi naman ako digital expert, hindi naman ako digital native. Natuto ako because I wanted to do my interviews at sa awa ng Diyos, napagbigyan tayo nang konti. Napagbigyan tayo nang malaki, actually," he added.
After the public announcement of his network transfer, Abunda said it was difficult to leave his home network, but he had a good talk with his former big bosses so no bridges would be broken.
He said, "Makikipag-usap ako nang matino. I value relationship. That makes this whole process difficult. Nag-umpisa ako ng karera ko sa telebisyon sa Channel 7. Parati kong sinasabi na doon ako natuto maglakad, [at] natuto akong lumipad sa ABS-CBN. Mahirap dahil may mga relasyon akong pinangangalagaan.”
