On his Facebook page, Nietes posted photos of himself wearing the Food Panda food delivery rider uniform with the caption, “Food panda delivery.” In one of his posts, he shared a video of him getting stuck in a small creek while on his way to delivery.

Many of Nietes’ supporters and fans praised him for his humility and for finding decent ways to earn a living.

A commenter wrote, “Isa kang tunay na inspiration, di lang sa mga kapwa boksingero, at kapwa Pilipino, Kung di sa kapwa nagsisikap. Mabuhay ka sir Donnie, you have given extra inspiration to every delivery man out there that they can continue to work hard, sikap at tiyaga. A true hero to every Filipino.”

Nietes is considered the longest-reigning Filipino boxing world champion. He is a world champion boxer in four weight classes: WBO mini-flyweight title (2007 to 2011), WBO and The Ring magazine junior-flyweight titles (2011 and 2016), IBF flyweight title (2017 to 2018), and the WBO junior-bantamweight title (2018 to 2019).

Early this year, Nietes lost his chance to reclaim the WBO super flyweight title. He lost against Japan’s Kazuto Ioka via a unanimous decision in a lopsided bout in Tokyo, Japan.

The boxers had their first fight in December 2018 in Macau where Nietes won against Ioka via a split decision. However, Nietes refused to accept the WBO crown because that would mean he had to fight Filipino boxer Aston Palicte.
